California in the Sixties

Course Title

California in the Sixties

Description

This research seminar introduces students to historical research methods while providing a broad introduction to the history of California (particularly Southern California) in the period historians call "the long Sixties." By reading historical scholarship and conducting our own research in local archives, the class examines the histories of protest and movement-making; popular culture and the arts; racial inequality and the quest for rights; and suburbanization.
